South Coast Mic Check 1,2 Finalist Zama Mngoma Imbongi Yakocenge

Zama Mngoma aka Imbongi Yakocenge is a 19 year old poetess who wants to publish poetry books and DVDs, make enough money to support herself and her family through her poetry writing talent. When Zama started she had no support. She grew her reading skills through poetry, because she could not read well in language class, but playing around with words in poetry drew her interest than later helped her become a better reader and a poetry writer as an added bonus. Zama wants to encourage the youth not to forget their roots, to always remember their origin, how they were raised and preserve our Nguni languages.

Zama says she was a bit nervous before the audition, but she told herself that no matter what the outcome would be, she would gain some experience through the process, she encouraged herself to be positive. Zama says it is an awesome experience to be part of the South Coast Mic Check 1,2. She has learned how to handle stage fright, how to behave professionally on stage and gained more insight on stage rules among other things.

Meet South Coast Mic Check 1 2 Talent Showcase Mentor Zakhele Maphalalala

Zakhele Maphalalala's story is such an inspiration to the youth, it proves that when one has the right support, the sky is the limit. Zakhele says that Mr Xolani Hlongwa is the reason he is a successful musician, a pianist to be exact, a music business entrepreneur and a Law student.   Zakhele started doing classical church music in Anglican Church when he was really young, but he could not play an instrument. He then came to Umlazi Comtech High School. Mr Hlongwa taught him how to play properly, he put him in the school choir. When the school entered a competition, all the other competing schools had a professional pianist play for them, but Zakhele played for his school and they won in second place. He was only thirteen years old. This is when he started earning money for his music talent. This introduced Zakhele to the business side of music at an early age, fortunate enough to have Mr Hlongwa help teach him in this too.   Zakhele received a scholarship to study G...
