South Coast Mic Check 1,2 Finalist Papsane McGarden

Siphakamiso Praise-God Mngadi  aka Papsane McGarden is a 24 year old Hip Hop artist. He started doing music when he was in grade 7(2008). He says he has been doing Hip Hop for such a long time he no longer remembers what inspired him to explore it.  He does however wishes to inspire people to seek knowledge, harmonize and spread positive energy as far as it can travel through his music. Papsane says that his family supports him even though they are not fans of the genre he chose. Papsane is working with family members or as they call it "RISING WITH BROS" and working with a better lyricist every-time he thinks he has reached his peak. "My audition  wasn't on fire, it was the actual flame. When the noise lowers from the crowd I know for a fact that they're trying to listen to my lyrics which I see as them lending me their energy or power enabling me to transport their minds to another dimension."  he says. Karabo Tuelojunior Gabokhutle aka KGee is a 15 year old rapper. He started doing music 2016. What inspires him is the way rappers dress and their bold attitude, he likes how they are able to express themselves in words. He says that he knows that he is still very young but the sooner one starts to pursue one's dream the quicker one grows. KGee says his dad supports him in his music. KG  works with Ryme Studios,  Lunga and KC Sleet. KGee says his audition was a terrifying and exciting moment but I was happy to do something he loves. South Coast Mic Check 1,2 Finalist Zama Mngoma Imbongi Yakocenge

Zama Mngoma aka Imbongi Yakocenge is a 19 year old poetess who wants to publish poetry books and DVDs, make enough money to support herself and her family through her poetry writing talent. When Zama started she had no support. She grew her reading skills through poetry, because she could not read well in language class, but playing around with words in poetry drew her interest than later helped her become a better reader and a poetry writer as an added bonus. Zama wants to encourage the youth not to forget their roots, to always remember their origin, how they were raised and preserve our Nguni languages. Zama says she was a bit nervous before the audition, but she told herself that no matter what the outcome would be, she would gain some experience through the process, she encouraged herself to be positive. South Coast Mic Check 1,2 Finalist Spha Imbongi Yodumo

Sphamandla Ntaka aka Imbongi Yodumo is a poet who started writing and reciting poetry in 2014. He did not get support immediately because some thought it was a stage, he would eventually grow out of it. When he persisted, they later realized that not only did he love poetry, but he was talented in it. Spha believes that poetry teaches one to be well mannered and diplomatic in speech. It takes being respectful of oneself, then towards the craft to do it well, he says. Spha says there is also some emotional healing that is imparted through poetry. Spha's goal is to be an influential poet, who can live of writing and reciting poetry. He believes it can be a successful path. He knows it would demand commitment and persistence but he has no doubt about how committed he is so he is not afraid.He draws inspiration from the other poets in the field, and he loves how they present it. South Coast Mic Check 1,2 Finalist Ice Cream

Thabiso aka Ice Cream is a 20 year old Hip Hop artist who uses his mother's laptop to create his own beats and his father's camera to shoot his own music videos. Ice Cream started doing music when he was thirteen years old. Ice Cream wants to be the best hit-maker in the world. He says some people ask him if he really is a Hip Hop artist even though his father is church minister, to which he responds by saying that he is, indeed. He is a music artist. It is not a sin. Ice Cream says that he is inspired by Eminem a lot, but what drives him to keep on producing and releasing music are his fans who always want to know what his new song release is. He says he had an awesome experience in the South Coast Mic Check 1,2 auditions, the audience responded so well, he felt like a celebrity. South Coast Mic Check 1,2 Talent Showcase Finalist Lamercy

Lamercy Nosipho Phiwokuhle Ngubane aka Lamercy is a sixteen year old female rapper who is fortunate to get inspiration and support from her parents. She also works with her two brothers in her music, one brother is an IT graduate, and another is a self taught music producer. Lamercy started doing Hip Hop music when she was twelve years old. She says Hip Hop is one thing that gives her the best manner in which to express who she really is, unapologetically. Lamercy says that the South Coast Mic Check 1,2 auditions are the highlight of her career at this point because they have made her feel more confident of her talent and gave her a platform to be exposed to an audience. She cried when she heard that she had made it to Top 15. She feels that this opportunity has put her career on a fast lane, making her believe that it is possible to succeed while one is still young.
