South Coast Mic Check 1,2 Finalist Spha Imbongi Yodumo

Sphamandla Ntaka aka Imbongi Yodumo is a poet who started writing and reciting poetry in 2014. He did not get support immediately because some thought it was a stage, he would eventually grow out of it. When he persisted, they later realized that not only did he love poetry, but he was talented in it. Spha believes that poetry teaches one to be well mannered and diplomatic in speech. It takes being respectful of oneself, then towards the craft to do it well, he says. Spha says there is also some emotional healing that is imparted through poetry. Spha's goal is to be an influential poet, who can live of writing and reciting poetry. He believes it can be a successful path. He knows it would demand commitment and persistence but he has no doubt about how committed he is so he is not afraid. He draws inspiration from the other poets in the field, and he loves how they present it.

Spha admits he was nervous in the South Mic Check 1,2 auditions but he left the stage happy because the audience responded well to his performance and the judges were impressed. He currently works alone.

Meet South Coast Mic Check 1 2 Talent Showcase Mentor Zakhele Maphalalala

Zakhele Maphalalala's story is such an inspiration to the youth, it proves that when one has the right support, the sky is the limit. Zakhele says that Mr Xolani Hlongwa is the reason he is a successful musician, a pianist to be exact, a music business entrepreneur and a Law student.   Zakhele started doing classical church music in Anglican Church when he was really young, but he could not play an instrument. He then came to Umlazi Comtech High School. Mr Hlongwa taught him how to play properly, he put him in the school choir. When the school entered a competition, all the other competing schools had a professional pianist play for them, but Zakhele played for his school and they won in second place. He was only thirteen years old. This is when he started earning money for his music talent. This introduced Zakhele to the business side of music at an early age, fortunate enough to have Mr Hlongwa help teach him in this too.   Zakhele received a scholarship to study G...
