Mbongeleni believes that what differentiates winners from losers is taking action. No one ever got rich by sitting at home and feeling sorry for oneself, he says. It all started earlier this year, when Nguwe Wedwa Youth Development Organization's CEO Mbongeleni Mzimela in association with Tzozo Project, a company by businessman and music industry practitioner Tizozo Zulu kickstarted the artist development programme. The programme was made possible by the sponsorships from Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit, Department of Arts and Living Cultures, Community Participation, Spar Winklespruit, Protea Hotel Karridene, and other local businesses in Umgababa and surrounding areas.  In opening the event the Ward 98 Cllr Comrade B J Thabethe encouraged the youth to continue with school while pursuing their music dreams because it would help empower them, prevent them from falling victims of signing contracts that only have the interests of those presenting them.     Ayakha Khuzwayo is a 24 year old poet who goes by the stage name Mzukulu kagogo. He says that he is doing poetry to bring hope in the community and to teach people about poetry. Mzukulu believes that there is a need to teach our youth and communities at large about poetry. Mzukulu wishes that more people would be confident, believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.   Mzukulu says that he is lucky to have his family support him in his journey.   Mzukulu is grateful that Nguwe Wedwa has created the Talent Showcase platform that grants him the stage to teach people what life is through poetry and he believes in Nguwe Wedwa.   Mzukulu currently works alone   Connect with him on social media Facebook and Instagram Mzukulu kagogo  

Thandolwethu Nombika, 16 and Nkanyiso Mzobe, 20 are members of Uthandolwenkanyiso, a poetry duo. Thandolwethu started in 2016, he realized that he is good at poetry recital, then simply followed his passion without giving it much thought. Thandolwethu says that besides becoming a well known poet,he wants to change people's lives by helping them overcome their life's challenges. Nkanyiso Mzobe is doing poetry because it is a gift he has. He started in 2017. He enjoys working with Thandolwethu. Zakhele Maphalalala's story is such an inspiration to the youth, it proves that when one has the right support, the sky is the limit. Zakhele says that Mr Xolani Hlongwa is the reason he is a successful musician, a pianist to be exact, a music business entrepreneur and a Law student.   Zakhele started doing classical church music in Anglican Church when he was really young, but he could not play an instrument. He then came to Umlazi Comtech High School. Mr Hlongwa taught him how to play properly, he put him in the school choir. When the school entered a competition, all the other competing schools had a professional pianist play for them, but Zakhele played for his school and they won in second place. He was only thirteen years old. This is when he started earning money for his music talent.   As Nguwe Wedwa we are so fortunate to have Mr Xolani Hlongwa as one of the mentors and HOD in our South Coast Mic Check 1 2 Talent Showcase music performance training department. Mr Hlongwa is a highly experienced individual who started as a trumpeter. Shortly after his classical music training he played for an orchestra. Mr Hlongwa studied Jazz in what used to be Natal Technickon, now Durban University of Technology (DUT). He was also mentored through Theo Bophela's programme called Inqwelo Afrika.   Mr Hlongwa introduced and started Jazz education in Umlazi Comtech High School. The programme gave birth to great talent   like Dalisu Ndlazi, Neo Dube, Zakhele Maphalalala (who is also in our mentoring team), Zinhle "Zintle" Msane, who is still studying at UKZN and many others that we are not able to mention here at this time. Nguwe Wedwa Youth Development Organization is inviting everyone in Durban and surroundings to Umgababa for the South Coast Mic Check 12 Talent Showcase on Saturday the 25th of March 2019 in Umnini Thusong Centre from 12pm. The Talent Showcase is here to assist our talented youth to get to the next level. The finalists are currently attending rehearsals and have an industry grooming mentorship. The parents are encouraged to avail themselves for the event, even if they do not quite understand what their kids are doing. It would be a great experience for participants but the event would also give parents a glimpse into their children's talents and interests. Nguwe Wedwa believes that families need to support each other, and that no youth can be exploited or find themselves in trouble while pursuing their goals if their family members also posses an understanding of what they are involved in.
